Anyone can be a SABAH volunteer.

Currently, over 400 active volunteers provide the foundation of the SABAH organization. Thanks to dedicated individuals, hundreds of Western New Yorkers with special needs are able to participate in athletics.

SABAH volunteers enrich the lives of skaters, providing encouragement and support to those with disabilities. Volunteers participate both on and off the iceto help our athletes and the organization.

As SABAH continues to grow, so do the needs of our athletes. We welcome assistance from:

  • Individuals aged 12 and up
  • High school and college students seeking community service
  • Business employees
  • Community and professional groups
  • Sports clubs and organizations
  • Service clubs and organizations
  • Retirees
  • Other interested groups & organizations

What can you do as a Volunteer?

As an ON-ICE Volunteer, you will help with group skating lessons. Lessons are held six days a week at five rinks throughout WNY. One or more volunteers will be paired with a skater and expected to work with this athlete from October until our Annual Ice Show, (March/April). This volunteer position is an ongoing commitment requiring dedicated attendance. On-Ice Volunteers help skaters reach personal goals and learn basic skating skills and techniques. Volunteers also help the skater improve coordination, balance and communication.

As an OFF-ICE or ICE SHOW Volunteer, you will help with equipment, registration, and fundraising, or as ticket takers, ushers, program sellers and special event aides. Throughout the year, SABAH hosts numerous community events, and we are always in need of volunteers to help by staffing tables for events, making phone calls or assisting with mailings.
